I just don't get math. No matter how much I study, no matter how many problems I try to do or how many concepts I try to understand, I still don't get it. My professors aren't any help, tutors aren't any help, other students aren't willing to help me… I get really upset when I try to do a problem and it doesn't work and then I try to understand why and I don't get it. I can't understand the concepts. I try but it never works. I believe I am just an idiot and I'll never understand it and will never be able to make things better. And I try to believe I'm not stupid and try to be optimistic but it never works. I'm completely hopeless.
Answer:You are NOT stupid. Have you tried going to sites such as brightstorm, youtube. Brightstorm you have to sign up for a free account, to get the full videos. I find my professor worthless at times, but I come home and go to those sties that I just named, and look for the type of problems we are working on. There are some good "professors" on youtube, that will help you understand. Watch it several times and work through the problems as they do it. Do it step by step, and something that helps, is doing each step in a different color pen. What are you working on? Use just ONE notebook for math. Purplemath is another good site. If you tell me what you are working on, I might be able to tell you some good sites…not sure if I will be able to, but if you tell me, I will try to help. In your libray look for a book called Algebra to Go. It is a GREAT book. It is SO good that I bought one for myself and one for our math lab at the college I attend. I agree, it does seem like the rules keep changing.
Answer:I am math stupid as well. Bright in other ways though. Maybe you need to re-think your major and get into something that does not require much math.
Worked for me. I have lived a relatively comfortable middle class life without a need for higher math. As far as having a required math class or two, quit whining and gut it out. If you have to take the class multiple times then do it until you can get the "good enough grade".
Answer:Some of us have brains which are not wired for math. So we choose majors and careers which do not require math.
I majored in history, passed the college math requirement with a class which covered math at the ninth grade level, received my bachelor's degree with honors and distinction, graduated from law school and practiced law. A computer did the small amount of math which I needed in my legal career.
Answer:I have the exact same problem. I've had tutors since the 6th grade, and now I'm in 12th grade and still suck at Math. I'm going to be a senior in Algebra 1, and it's quite embarrassing. I have a tutor, because I need it. Especially for the ACT. Math and Science was what brought my score down. But I focus on what I'm good at. Like, English and my creative side which makes up for my terrible Math and Science grades.
Answer:It sounds like a problem with number sense and numeration. Something simple is missing from when you were in elementary or middle school. If you take the time and have a tutor who is willing to take the time, you can find out what it is and remediate it. In any instance when I have tutored someone in math, they only continued to have problems if they were unwilling to take the time to go back and find out what is missing. Lay off of college math for a while and get yourself a patient tutor, unless you can find a college professor willing to really break it down and work with you.
Good luck!
