How do I quote this whole passage?

“Because,” said she, “I grieve to tell you that I hear this morning your mamma is very ill.”

A mist rose between Mrs. Creakle and me, and her figure seemed to move in it for an instant. Then I felt the burning tears run down my face, and it was steady again.

"She is very dangerously ill," she added.

I knew it all now.

"She is dead."

There was no need to tell me so. I had already broken out into a desolate cry, and felt an orphan in the wide world.

Answer:Barbara is describing a block quote. You don't use quotation marks with that. The indent takes care of it. Often a block quote will be set in a smaller font than the running text, too.

If you insist on quotation marks, you would put the whole thing in double quotation marks and change the dialogue ones into single quotation marks:

“'Because,' said she, 'I grieve to tell you that I hear this morning your mamma is very ill.'

A mist rose between Mrs. Creakle and me, and her figure seemed to move in it for an instant. Then I felt the burning tears run down my face, and it was steady again.

'She is very dangerously ill,' she added."

Answer:Quoted material of over forty words in length should set off from the text by being indented a consistent number of spaces from the left margin, with a line space above and below, e.g. (pretend that the margins of the quoted material are inset from the rest of the text, something that can't be done here!)
