I graduated from college 16 years ago. I have a B.A. in Sociology but to no avail.
As you know, there are certain studies that will not do much in
the real-world unless a graduate degree is sought. I am 45 years
old today and find myself working in a dead-end job with no future that pays very little (contract security guard).
I hate my life. I went to college for nothing. I have been
wanting to return to school for many years but there are 3
reasons why I am reluctant to see myself as a college student
again:
1-current age(45)
2-scared of student loans
3-reality of time to earn a second degree
What can I do? Should I go back to school at age 45? My love
is math. What do you suggest? Thank you very much for your
time.
Answer:Of course!! My mom is 46 and she went back to school when she was 42, and she loved it! She got a much better job which pays more and she is definitely more content with life. If your love is math, perhaps you could go back to school to become a math teacher? Teachers earn enough money for a comfortable lifestyle and there's a definite need for teachers.
Don't give up a dream just because of your age.

Answer:yes you should its like a heathly challenge you wont regret it
Answer:Well, all of those things that you named (besides age) are an issue apparently for you. Age isn't that bad. But yeah you'll have students loans and it may take a while. If you want to do something with your degree now, apply for a job as a Social Worker.
Answer:Look into an MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) program you could teach high school or middle school math classes. If you like to work with people this might be a good choice for you. Typically you can earn an MAT degree in a shorter amount of time than starting from the beginning and earning another BS degree and the fees are slightly less. You might have to take a few undergraduate classes at a community college to qualify for the program, but you most likely took most of the requirements, because of your BS degree. I hope this helps you good luck with school!
Answer:It's totally okay to go to school at that age! My mom was tired of working at random places and not having a career. She would work on weekends and nights and we never had time together or with family. So she went back to school at the age of 43 and got a 2 year degree in medical assisting. She is SO much happier now, it makes me happy. And we have more time with family and stuff now. I say go for it! About the loan.. It came out to be about 13,000 and she paid it off in 2 years
Answer:My dad started medical school at age 40. You can always go back to get an education. Good luck to you!
Answer:Apply for a Pell grant. I did when I was 51.
Here is the application site. Go for it.
