I'm making up lyrics in the tune of California Gurls except it will be for Pennsylvania girls. Does this part make sense? "You can travel the world. But nothing equates to the keystone state." Am I using the word equates correctly? Please and thanks.

Answer:The grammar is fine but, as you have guessed, equates doesn't have the right meaning for you. I'm guessing what you're trying to say is "nothing is as good as" while equates literally means "To consider, treat, or depict as equal" rather than "to be equal".

Someone has to equate something to something. Something cannot equate by itself. The word equate requires an actor.

"Nobody can equate that to the keystone state" would be correct while probably not right for the song.

Answer:kobe

Answer:it is ok – a bit stilted perhaps but difficult to think of an alternative – more important to make it scan
