In breakfast, a compound word with a verb a noun break a verb and fast a noun. With breakfast we break the fast since our last meal. Dinner break is a compound noun with 2 nouns, dinner, the meal and break, the time off to do something else.

Answer:But a fast can be done at any time, not only Lent, Jewish people and Muslim people also fast. You used fast with his, an adjective, so I would call that fast a noun. Break is also a noun as in "Give me a break."

Answer:Actually, the word "breakfast" does mean to break from a fast but the fast means the time between the last meal of the day and the first meal of the next day. During that time, one has roughly ten hours or so between dinner and breakfast, which is a considerable amount of time to go without food should we be awake.

Answer:I'll take your word for it (breakfast, although it may be erroneous).

Dinner break is a break from the previous breakfast, so it is OK to eat now. Ain't ya havin' a break to have dinner?

(How do ya like my cool reasoning?)
